Quiet Night
I don't know why I felt the urge to take this photo,
the street outside one of my best mate's house
the night before I fly back to Australia.

Perhaps I was just trying to
capture and remember
her and her family's
generosity and
also the fun
I received
there.

Snow Beer

The night I took this picture,
I wrote something different.

And then when I reviewed the photos taken that night,
one thing stood out:

My friends,
despite distance, tiredness, work, heavy traffic,
still came
for me.

Words just couldn't describe how grateful I am.

Shredded

Everyone has multiple of them.

One of mine is
continuously breaking dried leaves
into small equal halves
when hanging out on the ground
underneath shadowing trees.

Penangite

Ferry
The childhood memories of
the greenish-blue sea,
the excitement when jellyfish were spotted,
the white splashes of the sea waves,
the cars wanting to line up in the first row,
the constant small crowd in front,
the various names of the ferries,
along with the debate of which ferry is the fastest.

I don't know why,
somehow taking a ferry
across the Malacca Straits
between Butterworth and Penang Island
still evokes some sort of
sentiment within.

Happy Birthday, My Friend

For you

Last time

How many years has it been?
The last time we took the bus together,
the last time we went to this place,,
the last time we spoke,
the last time we met?

How many more years will this last for?

And what if
things didn't change?

Change

It's amazing how
certain things never change,
certain memories remain the same,
certain taste/smell stays unchanged,
certain impressions become constant,
even after all these years.

Yet,
everything
has changed.

Selamat Makan

Sometimes, I miss the phone calls that start with:

"你吃饱了没?"
(Hokkien)

or

"你几时返来吃饭?"

Cold Steel

Skybridge Petronas Twin Towers

What if
I walk through the beautiful park,
reach the glorious ground floor,
take the double-decker lift,
zoom up 50 levels of offices,
sit in front of my computer,
occasionally staring into the infinite space
through the shiny windows
everyday?

Will I survive
working in a office
like this?

Learnt

Lord Murugan
You can be in the same spot for all your life,
but when you are with different people, at different stages of your life,
you'll discover something new,
not just about others,
but more importantly,
about yourself.

And thank God for that.

Same? Different?

Kajang Satay
Sometimes,
doing the same things,
eating the same food,
or meeting up with the same people,

could mean/feel differently,
or serve as a different purpose,

when done at different times,
under different circumstances.

So I guess,
missing out on Kajang Satay all those years ago,
might not be a bad thing afterall.

Can you feel it?

I used to always come to this place
Been taking a friend around KL these days.
Somehow, realised how shallow KL appears to be for some people.

"KL = shopping only!!"
"KL = eat food lo..."
"KL = not much one la, no need so many days here!"

Coming back from a week in Vietnam, the contrast is even more pronounce.

But then,
little surprises discovered along the way,
places you revisited,
retelling the history of our country,
illustrating the culture of the locals...

You'd realised,
Kuala Lumpur is very rich afterall.

And these things,
luckily,
cannot be framed in elegant pictures,
nor displayed on tourism website.

These,
have to be felt.

This is my final drink in Vietnam.

Tra da - Vietnamese iced tea.
The cheapest.
Refreshing.

At my favourite cafe in Saigon - Sozo.

What a way to end my week of Vietnamese madness.

Mui Ne

Once upon a time,
there was a solar eclipse.
People flocked to this little seaside fishing village
to get the best view.

The sun was
covered for a few hours,

but the beauty of Mui Ne was
uncovered forever.

I just want to

My Dad

My dad is a fisherman. He wakes up very early everyday to go to work in his boat. At night, he comes back home and make us seafood for dinner.

Sometimes, my dad brings me to work and let me steer the boat.

I love my dad very much.

When I grow up, I want to be a fisherman too, just like my dad.

And sometimes,

6-layered 9-layered cake
On the last day of year 2010, I only took one photo,
a photo of one of my favourite dessert --
the 9-layered cake.

But, hang on,
there are only 6 layers in this piece of sweetness,
and the colours are not what I've seen/expected.

It still tastes the same, yet unique/different on the outside.

So, perhaps this is what I hope year 2011 will be for me --
to hold onto the same core values,
but dare to change in some other ways.
